OVERVIEW

The goal of the SCSD Transition Program is to support a seamless transition from high school to adult life for individuals with disabilities.

The program provides instruction in postsecondary education, employment, and independent living skills. In addition, students and families are connected with community organizations to access comprehensive wraparound services.

OUR GOAL IN ACTION

The Cat Café at Springfield High School

The Cat Café is a student-operated café within our Transition Program, designed to provide students with meaningful, hands-on experiences that build employability skills, independence, and community engagement.

Cat Café offers students the opportunity to develop and apply essential job-related skills in an authentic setting, including customer service, teamwork, time management, and problem-solving. Initiatives such as this play a critical role in preparing students for postsecondary success and competitive employment.

Community Internships

As seniors, Transition Program students can participate in internships with local businesses, gaining valuable real-world experience. These placements allow students to explore a variety of roles within each organization, helping them build workplace skills and discover career interests. Recent community partners include the Courtyard Marriott, Second Harvest Food Bank, Villa Healthcare and Springfield Health and Fitness.

PAES Lab

The Practical Assessment Exploration System (PAES) Lab is a hands-on, simulated work environment in schools, especially for students with disabilities, that helps them to explore careers, assess job potential, and build work skills in areas like Construction, Business, Tech, and Service. Students use real tools and tasks to develop independence for post-high school employment
