Our first alumni highlight is an alumnus from South High Class of 2005: Leah Gueth (Henry).
Leah is a charge nurse leader for Kettering Health.
1. Could you run us through your story from school to where you are now?
After I graduated in 2005, I became an STNA in 2006. That led to graduating with my LPN in 2013, my RN with an Associates Degree in 2016, and my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 2024. I am currently working on my Master’s Degree in Nursing, specializing in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. Throughout my career, I have worked in long term care and in acute care hospitals, and am currently working as a Charge Nurse Leader for Kettering Health. I married my husband in 2017, we have 3 children, and still live in Springfield.
2. Looking back, what is a part of your story that people might not know from simply reading your resume?
I was never sure that I wanted to be in healthcare or even be a nurse. It's something I had to discover that I liked and wanted to do.
3. What accomplishment are you the most proud of?
Graduating with my Associate’s Degree in Nursing and then becoming an RN was my greatest accomplishment. It was a fast paced program, and required a lot of time and energy. When I graduate with my Master’s Degree in Nursing and become a Nurse Practitioner, that will become my greatest accomplishment.
4. Were there any teachers or staff members that had a lasting impact on you?
Lauren (Cebulka) Parke was my French teacher at South High School, and she had a big influence. She was incredibly intelligent and driven, but was also very nice and took a personal interest in each of her students.
5. Were there any classes, clubs, or activities that influenced or helped prepare you for your educational/professional journey?
I was not involved in too many activities in high school, but I did enjoy being in French Club and volunteering at the daycare.
6. What is your favorite memory from Springfield City Schools?
Sophomore year we took a field trip to Cedar Bog, and we all had a lot fun.
7. What advice would you give to current Wildcats?
It’s okay if you’re not sure what you want to accomplish after high school, but I would definitely continue your education no matter what. Then you’ll at least have a stepping stone to get started with whatever path you take.
