The Springfield City School District is proud to announce that its Business Advisory Council (BAC) has achieved a three-star rating from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce for the second consecutive year.
The Business-Education Leader Awards for Excellent Business Advisory Councils recognizes two, three, and four-star rated Business Advisory Councils in Ohio.
What is the Business Advisory Council, and what does it do?
The SCSD BAC acts as a liaison between education and businesses and is responsible for providing recommendations to the Board of Education in areas such as changes in the job market, as well as the types of employment in which future jobs are most likely to be available. Examples of other ways the BAC has partnered with the District include participation in internships, career fairs at the middle & high school levels, business visits and work-based learning.
Beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, the District also implemented a ‘Career Pathway’ model for the Class of 2028 and beyond, which charts a ‘classroom to career’ route for each student: Business, Construction, Culinary Arts, Digital Media, Engineering & Manufacturing, Health Sciences or Unmanned Aerial Systems. These pathways were developed in collaboration with the BAC and help to identify in-demand jobs aligned with students’ aptitudes.
SCSD Superintendent Dr. Bob Hill said the District’s focus on career readiness has long-term benefits for students.
“The Business Advisory Council serving as the connecting point between the District and local industries has given our students more direct access to the career opportunities that await them after graduation, better preparing them to take on the world,” he said. “Maintaining this state rating is a testament to the hard work of the members of the BAC and their dedication to create career-focused opportunities for the next generation of employees.”
