Brewing more than coffee: The Cat Café is pouring possibility into every cup.

The Springfield City School District is celebrating the grand opening of The Cat Café, a student-operated coffee shop located in Springfield High School’s cafeteria.

Behind the counter are students in SHS’s Transition Program, which prepares students with disabilities for the workforce. Their experience in the café builds employability skills, independence and community engagement. As part of the daily responsibilities, students take and fill orders, accept payment and deliver orders to staff members in classrooms.

The Cat Café reflects the SCSD Student Services Department’s continued commitment to creating an environment that prepares all students for future success.

“By offering this experience within the walls of SHS, we’re able to provide a unique job-readiness opportunity that fits seamlessly into the school day,” said Student Services Director Rachel Hill.

The café is currently open for staff orders each morning.
