When families send their children to Springfield City School District, they trust the District with something incredibly important—not only their child’s education, but also their tax dollars. The SCSD is proud to share that the District has been recognized with two different accolades for exceptionally handling its dollars and cents. The SCSD was awarded the Auditor of State Award with Distinction and the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association and the Association of School Business Officials International.

Simply put: the District’s finances are in excellent shape. Independent auditors found no issues, mistakes, or red flags and applauded the District for clearly communicating its financial story. That means Springfield families can feel confident that every dollar is tracked, reported, and spent responsibly, with students always at the center of conversations.

“This award shows the District makes smart financial decisions, commits to transparency, and is a responsible caretaker of public funds,” said SCSD Chief Financial Officer Nicole Cottrell.

The District has earned this award several times in recent years, continuing a track record of strong stewardship. For Springfield families, it’s one more assurance that their schools are committed to doing things the right way, whether inside or outside the classroom.
