The Dome Renovation Project

As part of the District's Master Facilities Plan, 'The Dome' will undergo a multi-million dollar renovation that will transform the remaining space that has previously been untouched since the combining of North and South High Schools in 2008 into purposeful space that will efficiently serve students, staff members and the Springfield community. The $11 million renovation will add enhanced learning space, space for career exploration in high demand fields such as manufacturing, space for community partners serving students disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and expand current programs that focus on innovation and connected learning by linking mentors and students. In addition, the former Tiffany Gymnasium will also be available for use once the renovation is complete.

Current enrollment numbers indicate a need for additional classroom space, especially at the preschool level. As a result of the renovation, the District is looking forward to expanding the preschool program to better serve Springfield families with additional tutoring and mentoring programs. The Dome will become the new home of District Administrative Offices and District Board of Education Offices.

School districts play a vital role in their communities. The Dome is known for the creation of our future workforce and serves as a symbol of the revitalization of our community. We look forward to sharing additional updates as this project edges to completion by Spring 2024.
