Springfield High School senior Grady Schaadt made history on Saturday, October 31, becoming the first cross country runner in Springfield High School history to qualify for the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) State Cross Country Championships.
Competing in the Division I Southwest Regional Championships in Troy, Schaadt finished 26th overall with an impressive time of 16:04.2 in the 5,000-meter race, breaking his own school record by more than 12 seconds and securing a spot among Ohio's top high school runners.
The accomplishment marks another significant milestone for Springfield athletics. Schaadt is the first cross country runner from Springfield City Schools to advance to the state championships since Chris England represented the former Springfield North High School in 1989, ending a 37-year absence from the state competition.
Schaadt will represent the Wildcats at the OHSAA Division I State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 7, at Fortress Obetz and Memorial Park in Obetz, Ohio. The Division I boys race is scheduled for 10:40 a.m.
Congratulations to Grady, his coaches, and the entire Springfield High School cross country program on this historic accomplishment. The Wildcat community will be cheering him on as he takes the next step in an already record-setting season!
