Responsible Reopening Update for September 4, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians:
The first full week of school, both virtual and in person is behind us. From a teaching and learning, as well as a safety perspective, I could not be more proud of our students, families, teachers, and administrators for such a successful start to the year.
However, from a customer service perspective, I recognize that we must do better. I am aware of several technological issues that arose since August 26, including a less than ideal device deployment, class scheduling issues, and issues with enrollment.
I can assure you that the aforementioned issues are just as frustrating for our team as they are for parents. I can also assure you that we are working to get better each day, as our current reality and the planning that we have engaged in since April do not always match. What I am certain about is that our team is one of the best around and we will move forward to serve our students.
Due to seating limitations in all stadiums, many of our Wildcat fans will not be able to witness Springfield Football Friday Nights under the lights. Our student athletes are even limited to purchasing only two tickets each. However, our partnership with the TKDS Sports Network to livestream our home athletic events will continue! Our first livestream event was SHS vs. Wayne last Friday and we reached approximately 31,000 people.
With the TKDS Sports Network, our Wildcat fans will be able to view events for free via the District Facebook page and our District YouTube Channel. In addition, TKDS offers upgraded viewing for games via a subscription service found here.

REMOTE TOOLKIT FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS
Parents and students are encouraged to visit the Remote Learning Toolkit for Parents and Students to find multiple resources to assist in effective remote learning, including:
- Apple resources including, but not limited to Safari, iMovie, and many more
- Google resources including, but not limited to Chrome, GMail, Classroom, and many more
- Progressbook resources including Gradebook
- Cyber safety resources

SCHOOL REPORTING ORDER
Based on the Governor’s order, beginning Tuesday, September 8, parents or guardians and school staff should notify their school within 24 hours of receiving a positive test or a clinical diagnosis. Within 24 hours after receiving that notification, the school should notify other parents and guardians about that case in writing, providing as much information as possible without releasing protected health information. The school must also notify their local health department within 24 hours.
STUDENT SERVICES UPDATE
The District continues to receive many requests from our families to transition from virtual to in-person learning or vice versa. Please understand that our team continues to work with families of students with disabilities on a case by case basis through the IEP process. Unfortunately, the District is not able to simply make immediate changes due to our need to provide appropriate staffing.
If a change is requested due to the nature of a disability, please contact your child’s intervention specialist to schedule an IEP meeting. During the meeting, the team will consider all factors in the request and make a decision regarding the students’ specific situation. I ask that our families remain patient and show grace throughout this process.
STUDENT TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT HOTLINE
Due to device distribution and our plans to serve both our in person and virtual students, the District Technology Team continues to struggle to address the number of technology issues that have come through our hotline. I assure you that we are working diligently to address this issue and meet the needs of our families and students.
For parents or students experiencing difficulty logging in to Google Classroom, please remember that if you are in need of technical assistance, contact the SCSD Student Technology Hotline. The Hotline number is (937) 505-2909 and is staffed from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM weekdays. Tech support is also available via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
