Distance Learning Update for May 1, 2020

May 1, 2020

Dear SCSD Parents and Guardians,

Are we there yet? I keep reflecting on that phrase being shouted by my children from the back seat during a road trip. I am confident that the phrase is common throughout our nation right now as we continue to adjust to the distance learning adventure. I can assure you that we are almost there and that we will make it to the finish line together.

We have survived six weeks of distance learning, social distancing protocols, stay at home orders, and a pandemic. And what is most amazing is that we have done it together as a team. Together, by staying apart! I continue to be in awe of you and what you are doing to support your children and our community in this truly trying time. Please know that I personally appreciate each of you.

As stated last week, it is very important that you read weekly updates in their entirety, as we will continue to answer questions many of you have as we head into the final month of the 2019-20 school year.

Business Advisory Council Award of Excellence

Due to the cancellation of the Business Advisory Council Award of Excellence ceremony that was originally scheduled for April 29, the SCSD is working with the BAC to honor selected students. The District team is in the process of creating a recognition video to honor students. All student awards will be distributed through the US Postal Service soon.

Laptop/iPad Device Return and Pick-up of Student Belongings

Beginning May 18 - June 1 from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM, parents are required to return District-owned laptops and iPads, as well as pick-up student belongings. In order to protect the safety and well-being of our families and staff, the District team will work to gather all student items and place them in a labeled bag for pick-up. A detailed plan will be provided in next week’s update. Stay tuned!

Food Distribution

The longer that schools are closed and community members are without work, food assistance will continue to be in greater demand. The District is committed to assisting our students, ages 18 and younger during this time, and will continue to search for additional resources to allow for a weekly increase in the number of families served.

Parent Updates & Other Important Information

Please continue to visit the SCSD website at www.scsdoh.org for updates to the COVID-19 school closure.

Today’s video update highlights the information found in the parent update. Please continue to work with our team, be patient, and help us meet the needs of your family.

In closing, I remind you that the finish line is in sight for the 2019-20 school year!
