About

 Welcome from the Principal

Welcome to Horace Mann Elementary School, Home of the Wildcats!

As the newest Wildcat, I’d like to introduce myself.  I am Jill Weimer and have been an educator for the past thirty years with twenty-one years in the Springfield City School District as an intervention specialist and Special Education Supervisor.  For the past nine years, I served as the building principal for Grades 3 - 5 in Urbana.  I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Developmentally and Multi-handicapped Education from Bowling Green State University, a Master’s Degree from the University of Dayton in Educational Leadership and continued at UD to obtain my Principal’s license.

As the principal, I want to welcome you to our school community.  I look forward to meeting you and hope that we can provide helpful information through our website and school webpage.

It has been a very busy summer as I have been meeting and hiring staff.  It is evident that the Horace Mann staff believes that all children can learn and deserve a safe, exciting and successful educational experience.  High expectations for student growth and achievement combined with sufficient supports and interventions will result in academic growth and success for all students.

We are committed to collaborating and communicating with families on a consistent basis. By keeping the lines of communication open, we can actively work together for our children.  We look forward to building relationships with the students, families, and our community.  School newsletters will be sent out electronically the first Friday of each month and the digital sign in the front of the school will be updated regularly.  Please look for information about the new app for the Springfield City Schools where you will be able to see upcoming events, activities and all the great things happening at school.  If you are interested in volunteering or visiting, please feel free to contact us.

During the 2023 - 2024 school year, we will be implementing the Leader in Me framework based on the work of Stephen Covey.  You should hear your child start to talk about leadership opportunities and the 7 Habits.  We are looking forward to the many opportunities to empower your child and helping every child find their voice so they can be leaders.

In conclusion, we wish you all a wonderful school year. If we can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.  This will be a year full of learning, fun, and building community!  I am so excited to have returned to Springfield City and know that by working with you this will be an excellent school year!
