• July 18, 2018 (Springfield, OH) The Springfield City School District (SCSD) is pleased to announce the opening of The School of Innovation (SOI), a project-based learning Center. The School of Innovation will welcome their inaugural class in the fall of 2018. Located at 601 Selma Road, the SOI offers a hybrid model of hands-on learning and authentic experiences in a non-traditional setting. Also, the SOI is the new home of

OnCourse, the District’s online education option, where students are able to take courses in a classroom, a non-traditional setting, online, or a combination of options.

Admittance for grades 9-12 will be considered for any current SCSD student or students open-enrolling into the District. Applications are now available at Central Registration, 700 S. Limestone St., Suite A.

Located near The Dome, students attending the School of Innovation will enjoy shared programming, engaging in real-world problem solving, developing advanced communication skills, and collaboratively presenting their findings to the community.

Project-Based learning emphasizes hands-on, alternative methods of learning outside the realm of traditional education. This style of learning prepares students to gain the valuable skill of solving problems, while effectively participating as responsible citizens. The real-world aspect of learning prepares students for an immediate career choice or post-secondary education.

“Providing students with an increased focus for success in the 21st Century is the responsibility of every school district. We are pleased to open The School of Innovation to provide SCSD students, current and new, critical thinking skills, while tailoring instruction to the needs and desires of each student,” said Dr. Robert Hill, Superintendent. “Providing students the opportunity to ask their own questions, make their own project choices, and solve real-world problems, is an exciting vision for our collective future. We look forward to growing and sharing the success of the students who choose to attend The School of Innovation.”

Students may participate in Springfield High’s OHSAA sanctioned Division I athletic program, as well as participate in our award-winning music program. Upon successful completion of the senior year, School of Innovation students will earn a Springfield High School diploma.

“As a District, we realize the need to offer options to compete with cutting-edge, new educational concepts that aid in the overall success of our students,” Hill concluded.
